Boom Time For Spa Tourism

Category: International, Wellbeing | Comment (0)

Architectural spa trends are returning to making people feel comfortable and at ease.

The international tourism industry continues to be boosted by global spa travel, a trend predicted by leading spa industry guru, Heinz Schletterer.
Increased mobility and globalisation is leading to fierce
competition on an international level
Especially within the tourism industry, new products and high quality standards are more important than ever. Only if these are guaranteed can regulars be kept and new customers attracted in growing target markets such as Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
An influential personality in the spa industry development,
Herr Schletterer has already established more than 1,500 spa installations of over 2 million square metres.
Not just a spa expert and pioneer, Schletterer is also CEO of
Schletterer Wellness & Spa Design, whose range includes small
home spas, cruise ships and large destination spas. Schletterer
Wellness & Spa Design boasts in excess of 70 employees at the
company`s head office in Strass/Zillertal regularly reaching an
annual turnover of e20 million.
“There is an enormous competitive pressure among spa hotels,” says
Heinz Schletterer. “Ten years ago a spa area used to be a competitive
advantage; today it is just part of the standard equipment.”
SPECIALIST SERVICES
Heinz sees two aspects in the future development of spa and
tourism companies: One is further specialisation; the other is
personalising the range of services offered.

An influential personality in the spa industry development, Herr Schletterer has already established more than 1,500 spa installations of over 2 million square metres.

“The spa hotel of the future must be outstanding,” he says. “No
matter which specialisation hoteliers choose, they will only be
successful if they themselves are passionate about the subject –
and if the staff share this enthusiasm.”
In the next 10 years specialised hotels will obtain a market
share of 25 to 30% predicts Herr Schletterer who defines three
distinct development areas for hotel resorts as:
• Hotels built around a central theme such as health or sports
• Hotels focusing on a specific target group such as children
or seniors
• Low-function hotels addressing a larger, cosmopolitan target
group
Simultaneously, says Schletterer, a new trend is emerging. All
over the world numerous medical spa hotels are opening. These
hotels integrate health and medical care by specialists into spas.
Yet, according to Schletterer, the number of these hotels will be
limited due to the high acquisition costs within the medical area.

“When I first saw the Signature Products range, I was immediately impressed as I had researched the marketplace extensively and had never seen anything like the full mosaic finish with sandstone gratings that did not look like a domestic spa,” says Nirvana founder, Sean Barley.

“I was impressed with the project management delivered by the Signature team who were a pleasure to deal with, giving lots of good advice on both design and build, which made life an awful lot easier,” Sean adds.

Setting The Standard

Category: Wellbeing | Comment (0)

Cheshire’s Mere Golf Resort & Spa has set new standards at every turn. Already a sought-after wedding and conference venue, a luxurious five-star hotel is now under construction and is scheduled to open in 2012.

Outside, Mere’s golf course is one of the practice courses for the Open Championship. Originally created in the 1930s from 150 acres of Cheshire parkland, it has been described as the ‘Wentworth of the North’.

The Mere Spa ranks as one of the finest in the UK and is another example of the signature creativity of Cheshire Wellness.

One deliberate design decision was that the Mere Spa should not have a consistent ‘house style’. Every space has its own identity, so as you move from room to room there is a constantly refreshed feeling of individuality and discovery challenging ones perceptions.

British Inventors Launch New Style Spa Cover

Category: Home Pools & Spas, Hot Tubs & Spas, Wellbeing | Comment (3)

Above: Peter Brook, left and David Walker, right, the inventors of the Derolo automatic spa cover, pictured with Mark Lee, centre, International Sales Director for Hydropool Industries.

Making its debut showing at the recent Lyon show, the Derolo slatted automatic cover for spas is being exclusively distributed worldwide by the Hydropool spa and swim spa group.
Opening and closing with the turn of a key, the Derolo is an alternative to the traditional manual spa covers that can be difficult to manoeuvre, lose their insulating properties over time and can be unsightly.
The Derolo’s British inventors spent 12 months on the first phase of design and development before then having to refine the engineering and having ready for market.
“If I had realised how hard it was going to be – I would never have started it!” laughed Peter Brook who, with business partner David Walker, are the combined brains behind the slatted cover design.
“I have been building timber decks for 25 years in England and lately of course around swim spas, hot tub and pools,” Peter explained.

Hot Tub Is Winter Wellness Warmer

Category: Wellbeing | Comment (0)

Jacuzzi has launched its latest marketing campaign aimed at winter wellness and encouraging hot tub use throughout the colder months.
It’s a popular misconception that hot tubs are purely for the summer, obviously because we tend to spend more time in our gardens through but, Jacuzzi stress, a hot tub is definitely not just for those warmer months.
The heated water of a hot tub encourages fully oxygenated blood to flow freely throughout the body helping to repair any damaged or sore tissue. The increase in oxygen to the skin’s surface results in an overall soothing and relaxing experience for the whole body, and will promote a healthier, more radiant complexion, which is often difficult to achieve in those dull winter months.

BY RYDER APPOINTMENT

Category: Wellbeing | Comment (0)

The Celtic Manor resort in Wales’ Usk Valley is hoping to maximise on the high profile hosting of this year’s Ryder Cup tournament.
So keen was the resort to secure the prestige golf contest, with teams representing The USA and The Rest Of Europe, that it had the Twenty Ten golf course especially built to complement its existing Roman Road and Montgomerie courses.
The competition that is televised around the world also attract the presence of the Prince of Wales.
As well as golf, the Celtic Manor resort offers some of the finest facilities in the UK. Set in 1,400 acres of panoramic parkland at the gateway to Wales, The Celtic Manor Resort offers two hotels – a 330 room, 32 suite five-star Resort Hotel, and an historic 19th century Manor House hotel with 70 bedrooms.
In addition, there is a 1500 delegate convention centre, 14,000 square foot Exhibition Hall, 31 function rooms, five restaurants, three championship golf courses, two health clubs, a Clarins Health Spa and the award-winning Forum Spa. Celtic Manor provides a complete resort experience for the individual business and leisure traveller and is the ideal venue for conferences, product launches, corporate hospitality and incentives.
Celtic Manor is the brainchild of Welsh telecommunications entrepreneur Sir Terence Matthews. In 1980, he bought the original 19th century Manor House, formerly a coal magnate’s residence and later a maternity hospital.
Although Sir Terry was born there, his decision to turn the Manor House into a hotel was not based purely on sentiment: he saw its highly visible and accessible yet picturesque location as ideal for the development of a convention and leisure resort. At £140m, it is the biggest single private investment in the British hospitality industry.

Banyan Tree Branches Out

Category: International, Wellbeing | Comment (0)

AstralPool fitted out the Wellness area of the Banyan Tree Koh Samui Hotel, Thailand, that opened earlier this year.
The hotel now has a complete spa circuit, beginning with a hot-cold footbath with overhead mist shower which prepares users for the temperature zone, made up of two saunas, two steam baths, two rasul treatment areas and an ice fountain that allows users to achieve the perfect temperature contrast.
The spa users enjoy the benefits of a fully equipped water zone where, in addition to cascades, jets and stainless steel hydromassage loungers designed specifically for this project, various hydromassage rings are available as requested by the architect.
Between the water zone and the temperature zone, various hydromassage, cold rain, hot-cold and bucket showers are at the disposal of users.
To complete the circuit, and to ensure that the customers end their session in the best way possible, Ergo heated loungers have been installed, covered with vitreous mosaic tiles.
The project was developed from start to finish by Fluidra’s branch office in Singapore along with the Wellness business unit in Spain, where the project was designed and the spa’s various features were devised.
