Rockliffe Hall’s new spa garden welcomed its first guests this summer, following a £1 million investment. Located near Darlington in County Durham, the five star resort’s new outdoor spa facilities include a 7m x 3m infinity edge hydrotherapy pool with multiple massage features and a separate whirlpool, set within the heated decking.
The glassfronted sauna cabin with views of the grounds completes the spa offering, along with a fire pit, a water feature and five warm Tepidarium beds. Rockliffe Hall already benefits from 50,000 square feet indoor spa which itself includes a 20 metre leisure pool, a thermal bathing suite with a tepidarium, caldarium, roman and heat saunas, tropicarium, hydropool and ice fountain and sound wave therapy beds.
Work started on the new facilities in January with local contractors, Wharton Construction, managing the project. The original vision was designed by Sparc studio and Rockliffe Hall also worked with architects Xsite. The services of pool and spa specialists Alba Pools were called upon during the initial stages of the project.
Stephen Booth of Alba Pools explains: “We have been carrying out ongoing servicing for Rockliffe Hall for around four years and have a good working relationship with them, so when the new project was first highlighted, we were the preferred contractor to carry out the works.”
Stephen continues: “We were brought on board to design the new facilities – the sauna, hot pool, infinity external pool, experience showers and heated loungers.
“Once the works commenced, the whole team worked very closely together, including the main contractor and all other parties.”
The outdoor spa facilities were completed within budget and on time as per the programme.
