Brian Taylor, Chair of Birmingham Community Leisure Trust (BCLT) marks the start of construction on site at the new Stechford Leisure Centre in east Birmingham, watched by project partners and community representatives.

Work has begun on rebuilding Stechford Cascades Leisure Centre, one of three existing leisure centres across the city being replaced by Birmingham Community Leisure Trust (BCLT), working in partnership with Birmingham City Council (BCC).

The council is investing £9million in the development at Stechford, which will feature a 25m competition pool with spectator seating, teaching pool, café, sports hall, a 120 station gym, an exercise studio and a room for community use.

The project is part of a city wide investment of nearly £40million to give Birmingham residents leisure and exercise facilities fit for the 21st century. Building work is being undertaken by ISG Construction plc and is due for completion in early 2018.
