Steam and spa specialists Leisurequip were recently commissioned to design and install a health spa facility at the Ability Place residential development in the heart of London’s business district Canary Wharf.
Leisurequip were awarded the contract through Metric Solutions, who provide building maintenance and refit services in London. The project brief was to include a luxury sauna, bespoke tiled steam room and a tiled overflow spa.
Before the new spa elements could be installed, the existing domestic swim spa was removed and disposed of. Meanwhile, the run down mezzanine suspended floor was also removed to allow access to the undercroft below for the new overflow infinity spa.
Kenton Mann, director of Leisurequip explains: “We installed a 3m tiled overflow spa, which is fully automated with automatic water fill and built-in pump protection. An amperometric chlorine analyser and a PH control system combine to monitor and maintain the ideal chemical water balance.”
The tiled overflow spa is set at a constant 37°c and is controlled by a Thermalec 1kw spa electric heater. A commercial air blower and jet boaster pump completes the hydrotherapy installation.
Kenton continues: “A hardwood hemlock bespoke sauna with a frameless 10mm glass front was installed, with a hidden heater and automatic water and essence dosing. This is complemented by a bespoke steam room, again with automatic essence dosing.”
He adds: “Other notable features include the twinkling white starry sky set in the dark brown tiled raised coffer ceiling and the two tone dark brown and copper onyx vitreous glass mosaics contrast the walls and benches.”
The steam room has unique construction board radius bench ends, developed by Leisurequip in conjunction with Wigan-based construction board manufacturer PCS Board. Outside the sauna and steam room, the matching mosaic tiled facade with up-lighter coving completes the design.
