Fit For Purpose

Buck PoolsA major new swimming facility has opened in the West Midlands and is on track to become an important new destination for regional competition-level swimming. The £10.5 million revamp of Perdiswell Leisure Centre has, as its centrepiece, a new eight-lane 25m competition standard pool and boasts seating for 284 spectators with a further 118 seats around the poolside for swimmers.

Fully accessible for people of all abilities, the pool hall also features an 18 x 10m teaching pool with a movable floor. Buckingham Swimming Pools worked with the main contractors, Speller Metcalfe, on the project and carried out the pool design, shell construction and installation of all the pipework. The Buckingham team remained on hand throughout the duration of the project to ensure that everything went to plan in terms of timing and cost.

“There was a very in depth and detailed performance specification from the mechanical and electrical consultant for us to follow,” explains Richard Troman, MISPE of Buckingham Swimming Pools. “The concrete shell design was complex, as there were specific site conditions relating to flooding and ground water that led to numerous meetings with all of the design teams’ structural engineers to progress a design that would meet the site requirements.”
