Managed by WLCT, Chase Leisure Centre in Staffordshire welcomes over 400,000 visitors each year.

Following a multi-million pound refurbishment programme two years ago, Chase Leisure Centre in Staffordshire has established itself as one of the most contemporary leisure centres in the country.

The facility welcomes over 400,000 each year and boasts three swimming pools, a sauna, a fitness and group exercise studio, modernised village changing area and an eight badminton court sports hall. There is also a sensory room for those with disabilities, a two lane indoor bowls hall and an 18 hole golf course.

Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust (WLCT) worked in partnership with Cannock Chase District Council to see a raft of improvements come to fruition at the centre in 2013, including the creation of a new 140 station health and fitness suite.

“Following the refurbishment of the centre, there has been a significant increase in memberships,” comments Terry Simms, general manager at WLCT, which operates Chase Leisure Centre and Golf Course on behalf of Cannock Chase District Council.

“The fitness suite, kitted out with Technogym equipment and the three pools in particular have enabled the centre to grow its membership and improve access for all.”

The three pools at Chase Leisure Centre serve Cannock and the surrounding areas and cater for all clientele. The 25 x 12.5m main pool hosts swimming competitions, inflatable fun sessions and children’s parties but can also be roped off for adult swimming sessions. The 7.5 x 12.5m pool has a moving floor area which can vary from zero to 2.7m to deliver disability and hydrotherapy sessions, sub aqua sessions and aqua aerobics. The teaching pool is run at a slightly higher temperature and with a maximum depth of 1m, allows the centre to run parent and toddler sessions and children’s swim lessons.

Terry explains: “We are extremely proud of the water quality in the pools at the centre and we make every effort to maintain this high standard. We use sodium hypochlorite with Co2 as the pH control and during the refurbishment a state-of-the-art UV system was installed.”
