Featuring the UK’s first interactive water slide, the newly refurbished North Kesteven Leisure Centre in Lincolnshire has proven to be a big hit with visitors since it opened in May this year.

The refurbishment was undertaken by water leisure specialists World Leisure UK and consisted of a new 45m flume and a bespoke Magna Carta themed splash area. The project is part of a wider ÂŁ3.6m refurbishment funded by the district council and leisure operator 1Life.

Local schoolchildren were involved with the design of the new facilities and their ideas were brought to life by World Leisure’s manufacturing partner Van Egdom.

The inspiration for the splash area came from Lincoln’s history and ties with the Magna Carta and features a knight’s horse slide and water cannons for the smaller children.

Likewise, the flume, named VFlume was designed by iSlide to reflect the region’s history of aviation. The flume has digital touchscreens, offering users a choice of 12 ride settings, three of which are based around North Kesteven’s Aviation Heritage – Vulcan, Spitfire and Lancaster – and offer different lighting and music themes. Other choices include themes based around party and films.

Ride-goers can also hit pressure pads as they go down the slide to rack up high scores to challenge their friends and even take a selfie on the way down.

“Some small repairs were made to the main and learner pool, but the main focus of the development for World Leisure UK was the new flume and splash pool,” explains Simon Smith, Director of World Leisure UK.

“Since the project has been completed the feedback has been great and we were delighted to be involved with such an exciting redevelopment.”
