Nationwide Delivery

NationwideDelivering on its promise of creating active places and healthy people, Places for People Leisure has designed and built 15 new leisure centres across the UK in the last decade. The social enterprise now runs an extensive 118 leisure facilities across the UK on behalf of 36 local councils, and manages 72 swimming pools within those regions.

These include Wyre Forest Leisure Centre on behalf of Wyre Forest District Council and Hinckley Leisure Centre on behalf of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council. Mark Haslam, Head of Swimming and Sport at Places for People explains: “Our flagship leisure centres would be our impressive new build facilities. We have also assisted our local authority partners with a further ten new builds.

“Each centre has been uniquely designed to suit their settings. For instance, Hinckley Leisure Centre, which was opened by Olympic medallist Sharron Davies in 2016, was purposely designed to complement its parkland setting, incorporating natural materials, a green roof and a café which opens onto the surrounding park area.”

Places for People work closely alongside a dedicated team of architects, project managers, construction companies and subcontractors to offer the range of local authorities a complete solution to new builds. The business aims to provide leisure sites that are in synergy with the local authorities’ requirements and future vision for the centre. “We know that creating vibrant and attractive places encourages communities to play sport, work out and be physically active. We’ve developed a wealth of experience in the design and construction of facilities so that they invite rather than intimidate and we ensure they burst with dynamic and innovative sports and exercise activity that will capture a community’s imagination,” says Mark.

The company plans to open three further facilities this year including Sparkhill Pool and Fitness Centre on behalf of Birmingham City Council, Elmbridge Sports Hub on behalf of Elmbridge Borough Council and a replacement centre for Fleming Park Leisure Centre on behalf of Eastleigh Borough Council. Places for People have been frontrunners in the leisure sector for over 25 years and in recent years have picked up numerous accolades including UK Active Leisure Operator of the Years 2014 and 2015; UK Active Leisure Centre (Streamline) 2016 and Royal Society of Public Health and Wellbeing Award winner 2013 – 2016.
