The team from DG Pool & Leisure was awarded the Special Achievement accolade at this year’s UK Pool & Spa Awards, for a remarkable pool project they undertook at a children’s hospice last year.
West-Sussex based DG Pool & Leisure were called to Christopher’s Children’s Hospice in Surrey, where they had been having trouble with the pool, causing them to close it off on an almost permanent basis.
On arrival to the site, the DG Pools team were shocked and appalled at the state of the pool. Two local pool companies had let the client down badly, in terms of equipment specification and maintenance. Company director, Glyn Lucas said: “On inspection of the pool plant I was disappointed to see the equipment that had been installed. The filtration and flow-rates simply weren’t acceptable and spa jets and blowers were left stationary and stagnating for 3-4 days breeding bacteria.
“The staff at the hospice were very passionate about the pool and seemed truly saddened that it pool had been closed so often,” he added.
DG Pools set about improving filtration and adding correct equipment to the pool. Feeling guilty that the client had been let down so badly by the pool industry in the past, DG Pools spoke to their key suppliers and were offered support on many of the products. This reduced the overall cost of the project, which was passed directly on to the client, saving them over £8,000.
Contributions were kindly made by Certikin, Waterco, Triogen, Pollet Pool Group and Poddymeter. DG Pools also contributed one weeks’ labour and two LED underwater lights. Glyn added: “We’re very grateful of the support we received from our suppliers. It was a big task to get the pool up to standard for the children, but I’m pleased to report that since the project was completed in the early part of 2013 there have been no further problems.”
