THE AGE OF THE SPA HEAT PUMP

What goes together like salt and pepper, bread and butter and even hamburger with fries, is now equally true with hot tubs sold with heat pumps.

No self-respecting retailer is installing a home spa this season unless it is accompanied by a super-efficient spa heat pump.  What is more, switched-on hot tub specialists are contacting clients to get heat pumps retro-fitted to existing spas to encourage their continued use.

The heat pump for spas peak has been driven by the dual influences of an energy and economic crisis. Hot Tub retailers have had to wise-up quickly to eco efficiency. They certainly have.

The response to some considerable sales barriers has triggered the age of the spa heat pump with impressive performance from a healthy choice of manufacturers.

Cleanheat Leisure is the UK Distributor for the Zealux Inverboost ranges of heat pumps. Zealux was founded in 1999 and have had 25 years now manufacturing heat pumps, they have production lines in their own factories manufacturing pool and hot tub heat pumps and also MSC certified house heat pumps all of which are sold around the world.

“We provide full aftersales and tech support and are backed up by our European distribution partner and the factory itself, any issues are analysed but the whole chain to ensure any production issues are seen immediately and action is taken to rectify.”

The UX series with an Ultra quiet fan and working air temperatures as low as -20c, have a reverse air flow design drawing air through the sides and expelling cold air from the rear. This gives the front a clean contemporary design with a sculpted front panel and a centrally mounted touch screen controller. The unit can be controlled from anywhere in the world via a mobile phone app – this can also be shared with engineers for remote monitoring.

“The UX range is also used more and more on lodge parks, being really quiet the noise doesn’t interfere with other guests, the units can all be monitored by the park warden on one mobile device app, and with the design of the units, they are ‘football proof’ having a blank front.”
Poolex promote the Spawer spa heat pump brand offering characteristics to meet the challenges and demands of the current hot tub market.

“Heating a spa requires energy. A lot of energy,” points out Robert Smits, Poolstar’s regional manager for Benelux and the UK.
“Studies have shown that owning a hot tub can triple your electricity bill,” he says. “The electric heater, even with optimised placement and installation, is simply energy-intensive.”

SURPRISE PACKAGE

Poolex has drawn on all its experience to introduce a series of heat pumps dedicated to spas in 2023. With an average COP (Coefficient of Performance) exceeding 5, Poolex Spawer heat pumps offer a surprising reduction in electricity consumption. While the electric heater displays a 1:1 ratio in terms of power consumed to power output, the heat pump boasts a 1:5 ratio. But the technological advantages of the Spawer does not stop at energy savings.

These heat pumps can be installed in an instant thanks to Plug and Play technology. They are reversible for both heating and cooling, and you can control them remotely directly from a smartphone.  Robert says: “Home automation on these devices also allows control of the electric heater and circulation pump. With just a few taps, your spa is optimised.

THE ENERGI HEAT PUMP is available as a compact 5Kw on/off model or as an 8KW model with Mitsubishi inverter technology.

Externally, the choice of side ventilation reflects the ultra-compact nature of these spa heat pumps. Combined with extremely small dimensions – 60 cm width, 42 cm height – this cutting-edge installation allows the heat pump to be placed as close to the spa as possible.

Energi Heat Pumps are exclusive to online trade supplier Aqua Spa Supplies, part of the Aqua Warehouse Group. The Energi heat pump is available in two models — a compact 5Kw on/off model and an 8KW Model with Mitsubishi inverter technology.

A common question asked about heat pumps is the difference between an on/off and inverter heat pump, advise the Aqua Warehouse Group.  Aside from the on/off being slightly cheaper there are differences worth noting.

SAVING MONEY

“We all want to save money buying a heat pump but is the inverter version worth the extra cost,” asks AWG’s Martin Rigby. “In simple terms the on/off does exactly what is says. It is either on or off. Full power or no power. And this concept works perfectly fine. Martin continues: “For those on a tight budget, the on/off heat pump will still do the job. “An Inverter heat pump may be more expensive to purchase but will offer lower running costs, most likely last longer and run much quieter.”
