We go on location to Armagh in Northern Ireland….
Located at the south side of Craigavon’s balancing lake and enjoying outstanding views of Craigavon City Park, the South Lake Leisure Centre is a state-of-the-art facility situated in a pre-existing network of walking and cycling paths covering around three miles.
The largest project within Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s ambitious capital investment programme to date the swimming facilities boast a 50m pool with 200 spectator seating area, a 17m training pool, a family leisure pool all boasting floor-to-ceiling windows with views of lake where paddle-sports, sailing, windsurfing, water-skiing, wakeboarding, and banana boats all make maximum use of the water.
The Ustigate team was asked to design and build waterslides that would begin their descend from a height of eight metres. Completion was required in 2020 which turned out to be one of the most challenging periods worldwide. In the knowledge that there would have been a lot of queuing time for waterslides alone, the Ustigate team worked on an Elevations™ design that would provide waterslides and a lot more to entertain multiple visitors at every one time.
The scheme also considered all ages and abilities and guaranteed aquatic play would be available from the ground up to guarantee every visitor access to aquatic play. The installation provides an exciting multi-level indoor aquatic adventure for all ages and abilities to enjoy. Bursting with play value, there are 16 products at ground level and an eight-metre-high Elevations™ journey 32 metres in length with nine sturdy staircases, 11 platforms, 62 water features and two loop-the-loop waterslides.
Specialists in water play since 1966, Ustigate was commissioned to maximise the offering to be had in the fun pool. Despite the challenging times, Ustigate was delighted to complete their aquatic play challenge on time to the delight of operators and swimmers.
