When Gerry and Rachel Mee purchased the disused barns on Charity Farm near Shrewsbury seven years ago, they started an ongoing renovation programme to turn the barns into self-catering holiday cottages, which opened in 2014.
The site, now known as Burlton Cottages, has since undergone further renovation, with the addition of an indoor pool and spa area, featuring a six-seater Iberspa 02 hot tub. The couple approached Shropshire Pools & Spas to assist with the design and construction of the new wellness area.
Says Tracy Roberts of Shropshire Pools & Spas: “We were initially approached by the clients in 2015 after we had been recommended by a friend, however, circumstances meant that the build didn’t start until late 2016. “The brief was to provide the three cottages with a spa facility for their barn complex. The clients knew what they wanted to achieve so we advised them on the best options and procedures in order to gain that.”
Shropshire Pools & Spas recommended an Iberspa 02 hot tub as the focal point for the spa complex, which was supplied by Certikin and came with a bespoke filtration system and skid-pack with Balboa control system. The spa was selected because of its shape, making it more sociable and ideal for the families and groups that visit Burlton Cottages.
“The bespoke filter system was installed to make it easy to operate and look after. But what makes it stand out is the fact that it will complement the already premier existing holiday barn letting complex,” says Tracey. “This was possibly one of the best and most trouble-free projects we have done. This is down to having an excellent relationship with the client who worked hard to stick to deadline dates and also having a superb main building contractor.”
Shropshire Spas worked alongside key suppliers Certikin, Plastica and SpaParts Vortex to complete the job. Owners Gerry and Rachel also have plans to add a sauna, steam room and treatment rooms in the future to further benefit the complex.
