olympic torch relay
Iain Crighton, of Crightons Hydropool carried the Olympics 2012 torch for a 300m leg through Peterborough.

Iain Crighton, the chairman and owner of Peterborough-basedĀ  Crightons Hydropool, was honoured with carrying the torch for a leg of the 2012 London Olympics.

Nominated by Peterborough Ā Council, it was Iainā€™s work Ā raising thousands of pounds to help youngsters achieve their sporting dreams that brought him to their Ā attention. Over the last few years Iain has helped raise over Ā£100,000 and supported over 30 local youngsters each year with a grant.

Iain comments: ā€œMy 300 metres leg of the relay passed in a flash, not because of my speed but the whole occasion was overwhelming with 30,000 peopleĀ  cheering and they all seemed to want a photo!

ā€œIā€™ll keep the torch at the showroom for the next few months so people can see it and have their picture taken with it!ā€

Iain claimed the worst thing about being an Olympic Torch bearer was being sworn to secrecy for six months before the event and the best thing ā€“ everything!
