Developed in the UK, the increasingly popular Hot Tub Cinema concept is going global this year, as the team set their sights on expanding internationally.
Founding director Asher Charman said: “We successfully launched in New York in May 2014 to great acclaim with over 3,500 guests requesting tickets for our first show. We were also featured in a range of press and TV, including the Late Show with David Letterman.”
He added: “We are currently planning further sets of shows in NYC and several key cities in the US in 2015.”
Since it began in 2012, Hot Tub Cinema has gone from strength to strength, delighting audiences with its unique style of entertainment. In 2013 the company won a UK Pool & Spa Award for their Photograph of the Year entry.
CLASSIC SCREENINGS
Here in the UK, the team have just finished a set of shows in an abandoned underground station in London, and are now moving to a rooftop in Shoreditch in East London, screening a series 80’s classics such as Teen Wolf, Labyrinth and Ghostbusters.
Asher comments: “Our guests usually arrive with a sense of excitement and trepidation. It is quite a sight to see such a large number of hot tubs in one place. It quickly transforms into surprise and delight once our guests are in the tub and enjoying a few drinks.”
The company now own over 40 portable hot tubs, and are always on the lookout for new locations and venues to add to the Hot Tub Cinema portfolio. But with significant water and power requirements, finding suitable locations to accommodate can be a challenge.
“It’s a very intensive production – you’d have to be mad to try and put a show like this on for the amount of work for the relative number of guests but we love it. I’m sure there are a lot easier ways to put on a cinema night!”
