PWTAG launched Hot Tubs For Business, the first in a series of three booklets at its recent annual conference held at Drayton Manor in December. Janice Calvert, PWTAG chair explained the organisation felt there was a need for guidance on hot tubs tailored quite carefully and specifically to its operation. Follow-up booklets are planned on spas in a commercial location and domestic spas. “Hot tubs, perhaps badly chosen or installed, poorly maintained or wrongly used, can be lethal, especially when they’re used for business purposes,” said Janice. “There have been a number of outbreaks of illness, including fatalities linked to hot tubs in holiday park rental units, hotel bedrooms, holiday lets, on hire and even on display. Attracting an attendance well over 100, a timetable of eight speakers at the conference included a presentation by Dr John Lee on the planning, design and installation of hot tubs, points on the operation of hot tubs in business by Howard Gosling and an insight into how Center Parcs manage their hot tub stock by its own Health and Safety Manager, Ruth Hollins.
