P Is For People Power

Conrad Bos with a packet of frozen peas to remind us of the importance of Ps in business.

Oozing infectious enthusiasm, the effervescent Conrad Bos clutches a packet of frozen peas as he welcomes me to the Bosta  UK headquarters in Suffolk, writes Christina Connor.
“This is to remind us of the importance of Ps,” enthuses Conrad, Bosta’s UK managing director. “P for people; p for product and p for proper planning – we all need to remember the peas,” he smiles. With planning notes and motivational posters adorning the room – I have entered the engine room of one of the UK’s and Europe’s fastest growing pool equipment suppliers.
“When it comes to PVC fittings; generally the components are the same,” Conrad says. “It is the passion of the people providing them that makes the difference – that is what Bosta is all about.”

As an investor in people; Bosta puts its money where its mouth is. Of the 450 employees across the Bosta workforce that  perates under the Mega Group banner; 50 are significant investors. The remainder have an opportunity to be shareholders.
Conrad explains: “Rather than being a distributor for branded products where the manufacturer dictates what we have to do;
Bosta prefers to be its own personality in a business that makes a positive difference by providing opportunities for both our  staff and our customers.”
TEAMWORK
Bosta has three UK depots while the Mega Group family has offices in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Holland, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia,  Slovakia, Ukraine, as well as China. As a trade-only supplier, Bosta takes a pro-active, entrepreneurial approach with clear core values of reliability; ambition; teamwork and proactivity that are the life-blood for everyone involved in the business. Conrad adds: “We are not an hierarchical business –  you have to live by what you say,” “Rather we work every day as a team on a day to day basis to turn problems into opportunities,” he says. “We provide people with opportunities for them to make the most of their lives, giving them a life strategy, not just a business strategy and beliefs that work in and out of home. “We try to find what motivates people and create a healthy environment where they are competing for themselves and with themselves.”
