The infinity pool at the Shangri-La Shard hotel in London has been confirmed as the highest swimming pool in Western Europe.

Western Europe’s highest swimming pool has officially opened at the Shangri-La Shard hotel in Central London. The ‘Skypool’, as its being referred to by the hotel, sits 600ft above ground level on the 52nd floor of the Shard skyscraper, offering swimmers stunning views of St Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye and Westminster.

Designed by Hong-Kong based interior designer Andre Fu of AFSO, the 11 x 4m infinity pool is adjacent to London’s highest bar, Gong, which is located on the same floor. Penguin Pools were brought in to carry out the filtration on the concrete pool before a specialist tiling company added the finishing touches.

Guests at the hotel, where rooms start at £450 per night, have exclusive use of the pool, which is heated to 24°C, from 6am to 8pm. From 8.30pm each evening, visitors to the Gong bar are permitted to drink in the seating area around the pool, for a minimum spend of £45.
