Lonza has bid farewell to swimming pool water treatment expert, Arthur Cox, who has officially retired from the company after a long and distinguished career in this specialist field.
Formerly Arch Chemicals and bought by the Lonza group, Arthur initially joined the business in full time technical sales. Arthur moved to the role of product and technical development manager covering Northern Europe which was ideally suited to his chemical engineering background. With a varied career in the chemical industry, it will come as no surprise to learn that Arthur Cox’s favourite subjects at school were the sciences. He studied chemical engineering at the University of Manchester’s Institute of Science and Engineering and at this stage swimming pools and pool chemicals could never have been further from his thoughts.
He first dipped a toe into the pool market in the 1980s. At that time, the residential pool chemical market was still somewhat in its infancy but large quantities of chlorisos, both granular and tablet were being sold to the commercial sector including school pools, mainly due to the sudden demise of chlorine gas.
“I have found it a pleasure to spend the latter years of his working life with such dedicated and professional people, both in the residential (Fi-Clor) and commercial (hth) sectors of Arch and ultimately Lonza,” says Arthur. “I shall miss the swimming pool industry and the many interesting discussions we had around pool water chemistry,” he adds.
“I would like to wish the industry every success in the future and thank the trade organisations for their help and support during my time in it.”
