A brand new £10.5 million swimming facility has opened in the West Midlands. The new Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester boasts an eight-lane 25m competition standard pool and an 18×10 metre teaching pool with a movable floor, designed to attract everyone from casual swimmers to Olympic and Paralympic champions.
Fully accessible for people of all abilities, it is a major new sports and leisure facility that is suitable for regional competitions and will put Worcester on the swimming map. Supported by a £2m grant from Sport England, the pool and other fitness facilities at the leisure centre represent a significant investment by Worcester City Council.
The main contractor on the project was Speller Metcalfe and the pools were built by Buckingham Swimming Pools. The centre will be operated by Freedom Leisure, which has been awarded a 10-year contract to manage all the Council’s sport and leisure centres. Ivan Horsfall-Turner, Managing Director of Freedom Leisure commented: “We are delighted to be at the operational helm of this wonderful new facility which is certainly a redevelopment on a grand scale, turning the centre into a flagship and a shining example of a top-class leisure centre.”
