A seven-year-old girl has died after being found unconscious in a swimming pool at a holiday resort in Norfolk. The child was pulled from the water at Waveney River Centre, at Burgh St Peter, near , on May 1.

She was taken to James Paget Hospital in Gorleston where she died four hours later. Reports suggest that the girl was a guest at a private pool party being supervised by parents.

The holiday park in the heart of the Norfolk Broads has a newly-refurbished heated indoor pool and indoor spa. It is also used for private lessons and is described on the website as being a ‘perfect’ venue for children’s parties.

The provisional cause of death has been established as drowning and further tests are being carried out to obtain a definitive cause.
