To further enhance training opportunities, the Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers launched its Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Scheme in 2017. So far, more than 100 individuals have enrolled and the scheme is open to all (ISPE members or nonmembers) and is, for now, free of charge. CPD is the systematic maintenance, improvement and broadening of knowledge and skills and the development of personal qualities necessary for the execution of professional duties throughout your working life. The process enables professionals to stay ahead in our sector. CPD can take many forms such as attending seminars, workshops or courses; taking part in meetings or discussions, reading or writing a technical article and, for those newer to the trade, progressing through the ISPE Home Study Course and completing the exams.
INDUSTRY SUPPORT
Participants should check the ISPE website and trade press regularly for announcements of ISPE and other industry-supported training sessions. CPD points may be claimed by attending other non-industry training courses, such as fork lift truck driving or first aid, for example, in fact, anything that improves your knowledge. To enrol onto the ISPE CPD scheme simply complete the CPD registration form (available from the ISPE office or the ISPE website) and you will be sent a free CPD Activity Folder, to keep all your attendance certificates together, and an Activity Log Sheet on which to chart your progress.
FOUR DECADES
The Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers was set up in 1978 to establish an organisation for the individual swimming pool engineer. The organisation keeps its focus on the individual rather than the companies; there is no corporate membership. There are two completely separate routes to obtaining membership of the Institute: 1) Application for membership for direct admission based on age and experience within the swimming pool industry, or, 2) Student Registration via the ISPE Home Study Course and examination to qualified Technician.
