Making A Big Splash In UK Pools

Nearly three million people take the plunge every week, making swimming the biggest participation sport in the UK. But British Swimming and the BBC are working together to inspire even more people into the pool with the Big  Splash campaign.

More than 1,200 swimming pools are supporting the Big Splash with special activities and swimming offers such as free taster session and discounted swims and lessons.
In February, the Big Splash Aquasplash Festival was launched by Big Splash ambassador Mark Foster at Manchester’s Aquatics Centre.

The festival is a national aquatic competition aimed at primary schools, with activities that can be incorporated into their school swimming lessons.

Pools can offer the scheme to primary schools and encourage them to take part in the festival by providing a range of resources including activity cards.
The Big Splash is also about to embark on its biggest event yet, by joining forces with Sport Relief and Swimathon, for the Swimathon Weekend 2012 at 650 pools across the UK from April 27 to 29. For more information on the Big Splash visit www.bbc.co.uk/bigsplash
