Midlands Pool Company That Cares

Based in the Midlands, the Poolcare Leisure team is celebrating 20 years in business this year.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Warwick-based Poolcare Leisure offers complete installation, maintenance and refurbishment solutions for its pool and spa clients across the country.

With a vast client base extending from large local authority leisure centres, health club chains, schools, care homes and hospitals to smaller domestic pools, Poolcare Leisure has established itself as a highly versatile company.

Richard Shephard, director and contracts manager at Poolcare Leisure explains: “This year we have carried out many refurbishment projects, both domestic and commercial, hydrotherapy and spa installations, and we are currently constructing a new swimming pool for a swim school.”

He adds: “At the moment we cover customers nationwide and we are even starting to venture into Europe, so it’s a busy time with lots of new projects in the pipeline.”

BOLD MOVE

Poolcare was established by owner and managing director Ian Fenwick, after he spotted a gap in the market for pool maintenance. Having previously worked for a large pool company, Ian took the bold move to set up his own business in 1994, and Poolcare Leisure was born.

Richard explains: “Poolcare was initially set up to provide domestic and commercial pool maintenance. Since then is has grown dramatically, and we now specialise in the commercial sector offering maintenance servicing and installation.”

Richard joined Poolcare Leisure in 2001 from an electrical background in the hotel and telecommunications industries. Other key members of the Poolcare team include service manager Peter Long and company secretary Sue Stone, along with 11 fulltime service engineers with a skills base covering construction, electrical and plumbing and gas.

Richard comments: “We have been fortunate enough to take on the right staff at key points, allowing a controlled but progressive expansion. Having a strong team is a crucial aspect to the success of the company, and has helped us to achieve an unrivalled reputation for customer service.”

At its headquarters in Warwick, Poolcare has a fully stocked shop providing a full range of accessories from pool vacuums to pool covers and splasher pools. Also available via the online shop, Poolcare specialise in Sunspot and Bayrol premium chemical ranges.

Unlike some of its rivals, Poolcare was lucky to escape the recession relatively unscathed, which Richard puts down to the company’s loyal commercial customers: “We weren’t heavily affected by the recent recession, as most of our clients are commercial sites which require ongoing maintenance and refurbishment. There may have been a slight downturn on new installations, which we are now starting to see improve.”

Looking to the future, Richard hopes to see the continued growth of the company through new projects and new customers in the UK and Europe.

He concludes: “We hope to increase our market share without diluting on the quality of our workmanship – this means continuing to provide a high quality of service and sustaining the ability to respond quickly and efficiently to maintenance issues.”
