In a landmark move, designed to sidestep Internet price cutting, National Leisure, the co-operative group of elite UK swimming pool builders, has launched its own product brand that is exclusively available to its member companies.
Portland Pool Products has launched with a range of heat pumps, filters and its own water treatment label, all sourced exclusively from credible suppliers and tried and tested by National Leisure members themselves. Only members of the National Leisure consortium have access to the Portland Pool Products brand which they can use in their own work and also sell to end users.
“Our member companies are fed up with being undercut on line with products sourced from main distributors there for all to see, sometimes at prices lower than we can buy ourselves,” comments Tim Bareham, of Dorset-based Cresta Leisure.
“Our member companies want products consumers can’t find anywhere else and that is what Portland Products is all about.” Plans are rolling out to develop the product range further in the near future – along with having suitable sales literature and product information to support sales.
Jo Harrigan of Pools and Gardens, Droitwich expands: “Not necessarily always the cheapest – Portland Pool Products is all about good value for money without compromising quality,” says Jo. “These products that are unique to National Leisure members to help them to differentiate themselves in a competitive market.
“Tried and trusted by member companies previously, Portland Pool Products are only ever available to members of National Leisure and for its members to sell to end users – they are not available for all and sundry to sell online on the likes of ebay which can only ever de-value a product and brand.”
