PART L SET FOR GREEN UPGRADE

As the UK and the building sector move towards a net zero future, changes to Part L of the Building Regulations are set to be introduced. The updated guidelines will set new benchmarks for the design and build standards for energy performance and carbon emissions of new and existing buildings including swimming pools.

The new Part L will pull Britain’s construction industry in line with the new EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, one of Europe’s key responses to the Kyoto accords — to improve the energy efficiency of buildings by at least 25 per cent and meet 25 per cent of Britain’s carbon emissions cuts. Potentially the biggest shake-up of building design for decades, ten per cent of all new buildings’ energy will need to come from renewables.
