Leading pool cover manufacturer Plastica has undertaken its biggest challenge yet, with the installation of a whopping single piece thermal cover at a pool in Devon.
Plastica routinely manufacture pool cover systems for 25m pools, but the project at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines in Lympstone proved to be the largest single piece cover system in the company’s history.
Steve Smith, sales manager at Plastica explains: “The client’s brief was simple – they wanted reduce their pool water heating bills and keep condensation in the pool hall to an absolute minimum.
“Ordinarily this would be a straightforward project for us, but this particular request was different. The pool measured no less than 33m x 15m and the customer specified a single-piece thermal cover!”
After several site visits, Plastica specified a fully automatic, motorised stanchion-mounted reel system fitted with a 5mm hemmed SuperCover. The system was integrated with Lympstone’s state-of-the-art air handling system for maximum efficiency.
Access to the pool hall also proved to be a challenge for the Plastica team, as the 16m reel needed to be craned off the lorry and carefully manoeuvred through a second floor window to gain access to the pool hall. The special 3m high end-stands were designed to ensure clear access through the doorways.
