From water retaining concrete and stainless steel structures including all the finishes right through to the specialist water filtration systems and controls, quality is the watchword for the Lancashire-based World Leisure UK.
Since its conception six years ago, World Leisure UK has built up strong working relationships in Europe, Canada and America which enables the company to offer specialist equipment such as moveable floors, flumes, bespoke water feature equipment and play structures all under the one contract.
Simon Smith, managing director explains: “World Leisure UK was formed in 2008 and we started trading in 2009 when I left William Taylor Swimming Pools. At that time, we took on the contracting arm of another company, which enabled us to offer turnkey packages in all aspects of the swimming pool industry.”
Simon is supported in his role as managing director of World Leisure UK by service manager Loraine Tatler. As well as managing the office, Loraine has been tasked with building up the service and maintenance side of the business and has established a small nationwide service division, which encompasses both public and private clients.
Simon comments: “I am heavily involved in the contracts side of the business where we have built up a good client base working for large construction companies but also being part of design teams for private companies.
“I generally live and breathe World Leisure, working long days and late nights with a drive to be successful in this industry, but it would not be possible without the team that I have in place as they are all key players and assist me all the way.”
A turning point came for the company in 2010, when it was involved with an installation at Harborne Leisure Centre in Birmingham, working with Wates Construction. Simon explains: “At the time, this was the biggest project that World Leisure had undertaken at over £650k, and it had also been designed by a water filtration consultant. Wates took a risk on us, but we were more than confident that we could deliver, and the project was delivered on time and on budget. This put us on the map and we have not looked back since.”
In terms of current projects, the World Leisure UK team are installing three new builds, consisting of a 20m pool, a 3m diameter spa and a sauna and steam room in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh for a hotel and leisure provider. They are also working on two large leisure centres for Cheshire West Council, again with Wates Construction. The first project includes an eight lane ASA pool and a 12m learner pool, while the second facility consists of a six lane community pool which will also be certified to ASA standards, plus a 13m learner pool with full moveable floor.
