A number of Olympic and Paralympic heroes in swimming and diving were recognised in the New Year Honours List 2017 for their outstanding contributions to their sports.

Included in the list was Rio 2016 50m Butterfly gold medallist, Elle Robinson. Although only 15 at the time, Robinson made an incredible Paralympic debut to become a Paralympic champion. Robinson was also crowned BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year for 2016. Adam Peaty also made an appearance on the list, having won Britain’s first Olympic swimming gold medal in almost three decades.

The gold medal winning Paralympic relay team members, Alice Tai, Claire Cashmore, Stephanie Millward and Steph Slater were also recognised for their achievement in Rio. History-making diving duo, Jack Laugher and Chris Mears, were the only athletes to be recognised from the diving community. The two divers secured Britain’s first ever diving gold medal at an Olympic Games, winning the Men’s 3m Synchronised Springboard event at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
