Saltdean Lido, the country’s only Grade II* listed lido is being brought back to life, thanks to dedication of the Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company (CIC).
Made up of volunteers, the Saltdean Lido CIC has worked hard to obtain funding for the multi-million pound project, which is due for completion in time for the summer season.
Aqua Platinum Projects (APP) has been appointed as the design and build contractor to restore the lido. The complex project is being tackled in two phases; phase one will see the pool restored back into one large pool, while phase two will restore the main lido building providing new community facilities including a refurbished library, café and gym.
A spokesperson for APP explains: “The lido will be one of the first heated lido swimming pools, with a fully automatic dosing system. The pool has also been designed with four automatic slatted safety covers – in fact, Saltdean will be the first lido within the UK to have a cover.”
The APP team is currently on-site breaking out the existing pool shells – the next stage will be to install new concrete pool shells.
The APP spokesperson adds: “We will be restoring the lido’s water feature in roping lights and making it a feature in the pool.
“Keeping some of the pools existing features is very important as it is a listed lido.”
