A small team with big ideas, the team from Kinniburgh Pools aren’t afraid of a challenge. In fact, the company’s first solo project was the installation of a 20m x 20m temporary above ground pool for a BBC game show, working with global media production company Endemol.

Now offering a turnkey approach for all projects, the Peebles-based company is adept to delivering larger scale pool design and installations, as well as servicing and maintenance contracts.

Managing director Nigel Kinniburgh explains: “A landmark moment for me was working with Endemol and the BBC. “There were some technical challenges along the way, but we delivered the pool on time and within budget.

“So successful was the project that since then we have been involved with other temporary pool projects – building on our good reputation.”

The company was set up in 2007 by Nigel Kinniburgh, who remains the driving force behind it. Having previously owned a home automation business, Nigel already had a wealth of experience in heating, lighting and plant control, before starting up Kinniburgh Pools nine years ago with the help and support of Pinelog Pools.

Nigel is supported by team members Barry Waddell and Andrew Rush. The trio have worked together for over 25 years and each brings a different skill set to the team.

“We are a small pool company so everybody is very hands on and most of us are multi-skilled and can do all plumbing works, electrics, plant and covers in house,” says Nigel. “We sub-contract our ductwork and ground works but always supervise them. We are lucky to work with a couple of other small but well respected pool companies to bring in extra labour or expertise when required to deliver difficult projects and vice versa.”

Kinniburgh Pools is currently working on a new-build residential project with the installation of a 20m x 3.5m indoor Niveko pool, which will be used as a training and therapy pool by the client. The team is also at the design stage of a temporary pool solution for an indoor helicopter training facility with a 20m x 20m deep pool facility that can be easily removed in 10 years time.

Nigel comments: “We have a very busy year ahead and that’s new after the past few steady years, which is great.

“We are looking forward to working with a couple of new products like the Pool Mac from Astral and the new all in one pool sanitisation and control solution DA-GEN from Dryden Aqua, who are based just around the corner from us.”

He concludes: “Our ongoing goal is to deliver interesting projects and to stay small and focused on why we are highly regarded by our customer base.”
