South West Spas is a small independent spa service, repair and installation company based in Exeter, Devon that has been
founded by Alan Cope, a highly experienced hot tub technician with more than four years in the business. Originally from Derbyshire, Alan 31, began his hot tub journey by building a 16 person spa at his Ashbourne home in 2005. It was this feat of engineering which led to his first job as a spa technician for Mont Blanc Spas in the French Alps. Alan covered around 1000km a week in the Haute Savoie region. He installed, repaired and carried out monthly service checks for large companies, luxury chalets and private home owners. Alan has come a long way since his first bespoke hot tub installation. “I built my first spa using parts meant for swimming pools and ponds, so working in the Alps was a steep learning curve for me,” says Alan. “There was a huge variety of repairs and installations and the busiest time of year was winter when temperatures dropped to well below minus 15.” Having been the lead technician in France, Alan decided to take the plunge with his own business. “It will be a change for me being busier in the summer and working by the coast rather than in the mountains, but I’m really looking forward to the start of a new season and expanding our client base in the South West. Alan said: “Most of our business has come via word of mouth and the website, I’m also keen to build up contacts within the industry, because with uncertain times ahead it’s important work together.”
