Leading spa suppliers and water treatment specialists are expressing concern over increased sales of Tri-Chlor tablets, mostly via the Internet, to unwitting hot tub owners who are unaware of the potentially detrimental effect on their hot tubs, especially to heating components.

They say success breeds success but for spa retailing couple Peter and Rachel Grinnall, of Midlands-based Complete Spas, it seems the harder they work, the luckier they get! The entrepreneurial pair first thought of opening their own spa retail business five years ago. “Rachel and I went out on a sunny afternoon with £5k in our back pocket with the hope of buying a ‘proper’ hot tub as we had a spa in a box for three years and loved it,” recalls Peter.
Artesian Spas have donated a limited-edition pink spa to one of their dealers in aid of cancer support at their local hospital. The Artesian Spas dealer, World of Hot Tubs, is an avid supporter of the cause and is leading the campaign to raise money for cancer patients. Artesian has convinced many of their local retailers to sell pink-themed ducks in aid of scheme. Every duck purchaser is automatically entered into a free prize draw and the lucky winner will receive a limited edition pink Dominica spa, one of a kind, worth about £7,000.
They promoted it as the event you cannot afford to miss. Lyon Piscine and Aqualie 2012, two benchmark exhibitions for swimming pool and spa professionals certainly lived up to that billing. Simply put, the Lyon exhibition event is the biggest and most important global show for the combined pool and spa sectors. It brings together 600 exhibitors, 1,000 brands from 90 countries and in the region of 18,000 visitors to Lyon. Traditionally, the first opportunity to see new developments in Europe, the combined Piscine and Aqualie 2012 events are also an exceptional opportunity to explore the latest key trends in the pool and spa markets.
After several false dawns; the sun appears to be perpetually shining
on the UK Jacuzzi hot tub division, writes Christina Connor.
With total sales, last financial year, of around 850 hot tubs;
figures for the first six months of their latest financial year, show
Jacuzzi UK sustaining a 46% sales growth.
Water companies that are about to impose a hose pipe ban in drought-affected areas of England, are misleading pool and spa businesses and their customers about the ban’s potential impact. Advice, being given by the water authorities themselves, that hot tubs cannot be filled after April 5, is both misinformed and factually incorrect. Contrary to advice being issued, hot tubs and the filling of newly constructed swimming pools are not affected by hose pipe bans.
