POOL UPGRADE IN SAFE HANDS

Brean Splash Waterpark is a family-owned facility located in Somerset. Comprising an indoor complex that opened in 2011 and an outdoor splash pool that opened in 2014, the site has built an excellent reputation as the place to go for some serious water fun.

Inside the centre, you will find a 25m, six-lane indoor swimming pool, along with an indoor splash zone made up of a small pool and fun slides. Both swimming pools were installed by Dorset-based Cresta Leisure.

Cresta Leisure has worked closely with the waterpark over the years and was recently tasked with replacing the outdated and inefficient dehumidification systems currently in place. With a 30-year working relationship with Heatstar behind them, the centre could be confident that the two companies would find the right solution.

Simon Bareham, Managing Director of Cresta Leisure said: “With the importance of specifying the correct units for the application, Cresta looked to Heatstar’s professional support. Heatstar attended preliminary meetings with Cresta and the client, and between all parties, the XF EC 12000 units were designed and delivered.

Careful planning and a clear understanding of what was required from everyone involved ensured that the units were delivered, positioned, and installed within a tight timeframe, allowing the park to be up and running quickly with minimal disruption to operations.

The client is delighted with the smoothness of the installation, experiencing an improved environment and reduced running costs — a great result for Heatstar, Cresta, and Brean Holiday Park.”

Heatstar has long been established as a market leader in the design and manufacture of modern, highly energy-efficient environmental control systems for swimming pools, ensuring that, alongside Cresta, this project was in safe hands.

The units chosen to handle the environmental control requirements within the indoor complex were three Heatstar XF EC 12000 Super+ systems. These high-efficiency heat recovery ventilation systems utilise fresh air introduction to provide natural dehumidification and incorporate a cross-flow recuperator to maximise heat extraction from the expelled pool hall air.

As is often the case, the main challenge Heatstar faced was fitting these large units into the footprint of the existing plant room. To overcome this, Heatstar’s sales and design team created a specially adapted XF EC 12000 for the indoor splash pool.

This unit was modified to accommodate a fresh air duct positioned on the side. To enable this adjustment, an internal redesign was required to reposition some of the larger components within the unit. The system was also manufactured as a split unit, allowing it to be manoeuvred into position through restricted site access, and configured horizontally to achieve the required fresh air spigot size. This marks the first time Heatstar has manufactured a unit in this configuration.
