Norwich-based Newson Swimming Pools has added the refurbishment of Norfolk’s popular Kelling Heath Holiday Park to a growing list of successful commercial wet leisure projects. The Newson team took on the comprehensive refurbishment of the existing luxury pool and steam room including full tanking and retiling. The project represents a standout example of high-quality craftsmanship, and innovative thinking.
The meticulous attention to detail wowed the judges at the recent UK Pool & Spa Awards, picking up several awards. “It’s not just a refurbishment but a thoughtful reinvention of the space, carefully tailored to meet the client’s needs while elevating both form and function,” says Newson’s Matthew Newson. “This project was a comprehensive upgrade of an existing residential swimming pool and steam room, focusing on structural enhancement, design-led additions, and material excellence. “Although the existing filtration and heating systems remained unchanged, the works carried out have significantly improved usability, safety and visual appeal.” Adds Matthew: “It’s a strong example of how a well-planned renovation can breathe new life into an existing space and exceed modern expectations.”
A key highlight on the project is the addition of bespoke pool steps, designed using 3D CAD to complement the pool’s original shape. These were constructed in reinforced concrete and finished with matching porcelain tiles to maintain continuity with the new copings. To complete the feature, a bespoke stainless-steel handrail and balustrade were designed, fabricated and installed, 
offering both safety and elegance. The original floor tiles were preserved, re-laid, and seamlessly grouted in.
The clean lines and polished finish provide a contemporary contrast to the mosaic tiling while ensuring durability in a demanding pool environment. This addition not only enhances accessibility but also elevates the overall design aesthetic. The entire pool was tanked and re-tiled using premium materials, and the lighting system was upgraded to enhance the overall ambience.”
The steam room was also fully renewed, featuring ergonomic Wedi seating, elegant mosaic finishes and a powerful new Tylo steam generator system. Every element was chosen for its durability, quality and visual impact, resulting in a space that offers a true wellness experience.
