The Mildenhall Hub has been described as a trailblazing project – bold, exciting and visionary with residents at its heart.
The concept behind the community complex was to bring together a range of public services on one site, making access easier and cutting costs including high school, library, citizens advice, emergency service as well as the new leisure centre.
Building of the Hub started in 2019 with RG Carter taking the role of main construction for West Suffolk Council and leisure operators, Abbeycroft Leisure.
The Mildenhall Hub project is the first major commercial pool project for Suffolk-based Wrightfield Pools working directly with a main contractor to achieve a client’s design brief. Wrightfield designed and manufactured the stainless steel pools for the project opting for a vinyl liner and a fully-welded perimeter recirculation gutter.
“The Hub is our biggest project to date totalling in-excess of £1.2m, and we are extremely proud of our achievement,” comments Wrightfield’s Clive Morton.
“The entire project was designed, fabricated, and installed by our own in-house team of engineers, with minimal outsourced subcontract suppliers.”
Wrightfield Pool’s involvement in the pool industry started as a piece-part supplier 13 years ago to a moving pool floor contractor in the East of England. The progression from component supplier to commercial pool contractor has been hard work for the team but extremely rewarding.
The complete build was undertaken under the cloud of COVID with restrictions on working conditions, remote working and stretched lines of communication.
Yet the project still came in on time and on budget, a reflection of the hard work the pools team put into the project. The team was rewarded with the title of Commercial Pool Project Of the Year in the recent 2021 UK Pool & Spa Awards.
