An all-singing, all dancing garden leisure base, this outstanding hot tub project was designed by the customer himself as the ultimate escape room. The home leisure amenity is packed with add-ons. As well as the hot tub as the focal point, there is also a cinema room and a sauna. “I designed the build from scratch and had loads of ideas I wanted to cram in,” explains Ian Sproat from his North Shields home. “I wanted somewhere I could disappear and forget about the crazy world we live in.“I think we achieved it. Nothing better on a winter’s night than sitting in the hot tub to relax, having a quick sauna then knock a few Nürburgring laps out on the big screen in the cinema room via the racing rig,” he says. The main build is set on a 9.5m x 4.8m reinforced concrete slab. The framework and roof is constructed out of treated construction grade timber and steel work to avoid any movement or sagging in the future.
Solid red cedar was cut to a custom profile to create the shadow look for the cladding, grey timber style composite decking for the floor coverings. Ian again: “The adjacent cinema room is sound proofed and also has sound proof plasterboard and MDF cladding to deaden the sound even more as when the system gets going, it kicks out some noise.” Custom steps where created to incorporate the planters with bi-fold doors and side window. Ian added: “The builder also came up with an ingenious idea of incorporating storage into the building behind the hot tub and sauna, so now we actually have a shed without being able to see it which was a nice touch.” The hot tub is a Pleasure Spa by Passion Spas purchased from Hot Tub Warehouse who also supplied the sauna heater. Materials and building equipment was supplied locally. The sound system has two zones. The effect is surround sound while watching movies from the hot tub. The other zone is for the sauna and external speakers.
