The John Preston Pool & Spa Services team worked around the clock, seven days a week, right up to Christmas Eve, to ensure this outstanding pool hall project was finished in time for what was a festive season to remember for one lucky customer. The David family live near the Lancashire coast in Formby, in five acres of woodland that, as well as the new pool hall, boasts its own go-kart track and tennis courts, The pool is set in an ancillary building separate from the house and is constructed from a huge oak framework supporting a glass roof with a six metre span. The 15m pool with split level spa, features a custom made polished steel cobra water feature and an in-built in-pool swim jet providing the opportunity for an aquatic work out. With all of these features, not only does this pool look spectacular but it is also a functional space for both relaxation as well as exercise. The wow factor was achieved, not only by the pool being overlooked from the house, but by two windows installed to the pool walls, which form a spectacular viewing area in the basement games room. John Preston of John Preston Pool and Spa Services, attended regular meetings with the client during the design and build phase which enabled him to turn the client’s dreams into reality and influence the design technically. “The clients wanted a pool hall in which they could spend time together as a family, with a decent sized swimming pool for the kids to play in, but also as a means of relaxation and chill out time for them, which is where the spa and cobra-head water feature came in,” says John. “But at the same time they wanted something different and spectacular, something that would also fit in with the rest of the house. “This was achieved by a lot of attention to detail such as laser-cutting the tiles, using high quality oak timbers, and fitting a skylight roof spanning six metres, all of which played its part in making the pool hall so perfect.” John himself played a big role in this project, attending design meetings on a weekly basis, along with general manager Matt Coxhead. Any design work required was then carried out by Bev Hewitson, the company’s in-house CAD designer. A true team effort, the building squad including plumbers, tilers, electricians and engineers worked around the clock to get the project finished for the Christmas deadline.
