Pure Blue Pools built this rectangular pool measuring 9m x 4m, providing ample space for a family of four in West Malling, Kent. One challenge Bruce Abercrombie and his Pure Blue team faced was how to keep the plant room as cool as possible, as it was being shared with beer cooling equipment for the 
bar in the pool house. They therefore insulated the pipes and filter and ensured the room was mechanically ventilated.
The pool took six weeks to complete and scooped a silver in the 2024 UK Pool & Spa Awards for Outdoor Pool of the Year Under 90K. Pure Blue Pools also struck gold for a Residential Refurbishment Project. “This is the first time we had entered the UK Pool & Spa Awards, so to win two awards is a fantastic result and the best end to the year we could have wished for,” says Bruce. “Our team puts a lot of hard work into every project and is meticulous in ensuring it delivers the best possible pool for the customer. We are very proud we can showcase our achievements with these awards.”
The West Malling swimming pool features a durable, non-slip embossed mosaic liner and radius corner steps. The water depth ranges from 1.2m to 1.8m. Products used included an AquaMatic safety cover because there are three children in the family and Pure Blue wanted to ensure the highest safety standards. This cover also eliminates time consuming pool openings after winter shutdown.
An initial problem faced was the mains drainage system from a neighbouring property running through the pool excavation. Carefully calculating invert levels, The Pure Blue team managed to successfully divert the drainage run by incorporating two new inspection chambers. The pool is lined with an embossed mosaic pattern liner, offering great durability and a non-slip surface, perfect for family use.
The mosaic finish in light grey adds a decorative look to the pool design with radius corner steps feature in the shallow section providing access in and out of the pool. Porcelain paving slabs were installed for the pool’s surround in a light beige shade, whilst darker bricks were laid as a contrast and to create zoned areas around the pool for relaxing and sunbathing.
