ISPE has begun the year with real momentum, delivering a comprehensive programme of education and training initiatives designed to support both students and industry professionals across the wet leisure sector.
A Back-to-Basics Revision Seminar took place at the British Swimming Pool Federation (BSPF) offices in Andover in January. Designed to support students ahead of their forthcoming examinations, the seminar focused on the core disciplines of the ISPE syllabus and provided a structured, engaging environment for revision.
The day opened with Chris Carr FISPE, who delivered a detailed and practical session on filtration, revisiting key principles and addressing common problem areas. John Scott FISPE followed with the heating module, strengthening both theoretical understanding and practical application. Construction was covered by Luke Griffiths, who guided candidates through a mock multiple- choice paper, offering valuable insight into exam technique and question structure. The seminar concluded with Colin Day FISPE leading the chemicals session, concentrating on essential calculations, water balance and the areas where marks are most frequently lost.
Throughout the day, tutors shared practical strategies to maximise marks and highlighted common pitfalls. The interactive format encouraged questions and discussion, enabling students to clarify technical points with confidence. To further support candidates, all sessions were recorded and made available to those preparing for the ISPE examinations.
ISPE’s commitment to professional development continued at SPATEX, where the organisation delivered an impressive 21 workshops across three days, from Tuesday 3rd to Thursday February 5th. Offered free of charge to visitors, the programme covered a broad range of technical and professional topics relevant to today’s wet leisure industry. Attendance remained consistently strong, underlining the sector’s appetite for accessible, high-quality training delivered in an industry setting.
Rounding off a busy period, Complete Pool Controls (CPC) hosted an ISPE Chemical Dosing Workshop at its premises in Cheltenham in February. Delivered by Lee Woods MISPE of CPC, the session was offered free of charge to ISPE members and focused on practical, hands-on learning.
The workshop explored the principles of accurate chemical dosing and its critical role in maintaining water quality, safeguarding bathers and supporting operational efficiency. Delegates received guidance on selecting appropriate dosing systems, along with advice on servicing, routine checks, maintenance and fault-finding. Safety and regulatory responsibilities were emphasised throughout, reinforcing the importance of compliance and correct installation.
